Kuhl Women’s Mova Skinny Pant: The stats

Fabric:KONTOUR 86% Nylon, 14% Spandex
Fit:Stretch, skinny
Best use:Casual hiking and outdoor activity

Features of the Kuhl Women’s Mova Skinny Pant

Fabric of pantsThe KONTOUR fabric is super soft and stretchy. It has a subtle mottled finish, and so far has proved to be snag resistant!

Faux fly

Fly on pantsThere is a false fly which gives these pants a smart and stylish finish that is in-keeping with their overall jean-like style.

Drawcord on pantsThe elasticated waistband has a flat drawcord to keep the pants in place, although this is not really necessary as the fit is so good. There are also belt loops should you wish to add a more everyday look to the pants.

Pockets on pantsThere are two pockets at the rear, two hand pockets at the front and one small (and mostly aesthetic) small front pocket. The four main pockets are stretchy yet secure and although their style adds to the look of the pants, they are also highly usable and useful.

Stitching on pantsThe three-needle stitching detail completes the jean-like look of the pants, as do the pocket studs.

Kuhl Women’s Mova Skinny Pant review

There are certain times when wearing highly technical outdoor clothing is totally essential. And then there are all the other active/outdoorsy times when most of my technical clothing is somewhat overkill. Casual coastal walks. Fair-weather camping. Chucking a frisbee or playing Spikeball on the beach. Cycling into town. Yoga. For me, all of these occasions warrant clothing that is comfortable and practical, but that doesn’t look like I’m ready for a serious trek into the wild. Clothing that I’d wear to work, go out to the pub in, AND that I can be active in.

So, I really feel like I’ve struck gold with Kuhl’s Mova Skinny Pant. Their style makes them suitable to wear with both sporty looking clothes and everyday casual wear. And the comfort they offer means that I don’t have to make any costume changes between activities. A true gift from the practical fashion gods!

They’re not the sort of pants I’d take with me backpacking to replace hiking pants or leggings — they take far too long to dry for that. But so far the fabric is dealing very well with the rough and tumble of beach and camp life — no snagging or bobbling, and it doesn’t lose its elasticity with wear.

The fit

I wear size 4 (US) and the fit is pretty much perfect. I think I’d prefer them to be slightly shorter in the leg (and more fitted at the ankle). But I really like the high waist at the back that totally stays put when you bend over or crouch down — no inadvertent flashing of your underwear (or worse!).

The skinny fit feels nothing like jeans, but also not too tight like some leggings can be. And the fabric doesn’t feel clingy at all. They’re the sort of pants that are so comfortable you don’t notice them — the way clothing should be, in my opinion!

What I love the most about the Kuhl Women’s Mova Skinny Pant

The combo of comfort, practicality and style is hugely appealing to me. I love that I can wear them with non-outdoorsy/sporty clothing and not have to change out of them should some impromptu beach games kick off! (Which happens more often than you might imagine!)

What I don’t love so much about the Kuhl Women’s Mova Skinny Pant

They take rather a long time to dry out. This limits their use in terms of outdoor activity, but that’s what technical hiking pants or leggings are for. The Mova’s are not technical in that sense.

I would also prefer the bottom of the legs to be a little more fitted. They work well with shoes, sandals or flip-flops, but when worn tucked into socks with boots the fabric gathers around the ankle.

For those looking for super stylish pants that provide unrivalled comfort for everyday wear as well as casual outdoor activity, the Kuhl Women’s Mova Skinny Pant are an absolute winner. They feel wonderful on, look great, and eliminate the need to even think about whether you’re dressed right for the day ahead — you will be!
