Design features of the BOGS Amanda Plush Insulated Boots

Insulated lining

Boot liningThe faux-fur lining is super soft and cosy, even when your socks creep their way down your foot (as is their way when you wear thin socks with wellies!). The lining also features BOGS’ Max-Wick and DuroFresh technology to deal with sweaty toes and help odor control.

Handles

Boot handlesThese make hauling your boots on so easy, especially when you’re dashing out to go jump in the puddles! They also make carrying your boots in one hand much easier than slowly losing them from your grip as you pinch the boots together.

Laces

Boot lacesThe laces can be tied as you would any other boot, and although they look best loosely fastened, they can be tied much more securely to stop the wet getting in on the really rainy days. The tongue beneath them is gusseted to prevent water getting in, and the presence of a tongue makes them really easy to get on and off.

Outsole

Boot soleThe bottom of the boots (or outsole) has a super grippy tread pattern that performs brilliantly in wet conditions. And there is also rebound shock absorbing technology in the outsoles, that, when combined with the dual density EVA footbed and gel cushioning, makes these boots exceptionally comfortable for a very long time.

BOGS Amanda Plush Insulated Boots review

I have a lot of very outdoorsy footwear – functional, excellent quality, waterproof etc – but they look it! So it’s a bit of an new experience for me to have outdoor boots that most people would mistake for fashion boots. And because of that, I was initially a little dubious about how well my new BOGS would perform, and how good they would actually look! At the end of the day they’re still wellies.

Wellies they may be, but I’ve had so many comments about my “gorgeous boots”, and never about my nice wellies! So I’ve embraced rocking these boots around town and out in the fields on the wet days, and I have to say that they feel as great as they look.

The pull on handles (which at first I thought were a bit of a gimmick), are becoming more useful the more I wear them, and only add to the uniqueness of the boot design. But it’s the laces that make them really stand out, and make them feel and look much more at home with a pair of jeans than with some technical hiking pants. The boots are calf length which also adds to the casual style.

Walking in bogs

So they look great, but how do they perform? Well, better than any outdoor boot I have ever worn (other than my £200 hiking boots!). They are 100% waterproof, and their outsole seems to be as grippy on wet slippery grass and mud as it is on wet slippery concrete and rocks. And because they fit really well (and don’t need huge thick socks to make them warm and comfortable), I feel super confident and stable when on steep, tricky ground.

What I love the most about the BOGS Amanda Plush Insulated Boots

They are just so comfortable and warm. You tend not to associate either of those things with rubber boots, but even on long tramps out in the countryside or on the beach paddling in and sea, the Amanda’s never leave me wishing I’d put on my hiking boots instead. I’ve also yet to get frosty feet in them (although they’ve not been tested out in snow… yet!).

Bogs in leaves

What I don’t love so much about the BOGS Amanda Plush Insulated Boots

The style of the boots is slightly baggy at the calf, which looks great. But on really rainy days I’ve started to get a little saturated where my pants tuck into the boots. I’ve since learned that tying the laces up tighter helps this a lot! The boots may not look so great like this, but they definitely keep you drier!

Verdict

I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t be able to find a place for the BOGS Amanda Plush Insulated Boots in their wadrobe. But they are especially well suited to a couple of types of people: the active and practical types who have become tired/bored of always looking so… active and practical! And for the types of women who are constantly on the go and need a great looking, high performing pair of boots that they can quickly step in and out of, whatever the weather.

A big thumbs up from me, and the deeper into winter we get, the more I’m absolutely loving their cosy comfort and reliable warmth.
