Multifunctional Outdoor Gear: The Flying Tent

Now I love outdoor gear. A minute or two browsing online, quickly turns into hours, and put me in an outdoor shop and I’m like a kid with candy. Sometimes I even dream about it! But what I don’t love, is having several items that all do the same job but just in slightly different ways. I hate the waste, the expense, the extra storage space needed and the challenge that comes with having to choose which bit of gear is best suited to each adventure. Take camping stoves; in the ideal world I would have a multi-burner for car camping, a liquid fuel stove for international adventures and longer trips, and a canister stove for lightweight backpacking. And I’m sure there are some of you reading this that have all three, plus a few more types too!

It would be easier if I could reign myself in and focus on just one outdoor activity, but alas, there are so many great things to be doing that I can’t possibly narrow the fun to just one. And therein lies the problem. By definition, outdoor lovers generally just love spending time in the wild, and the more suited their gear is to each specific adventure, the more fun and enjoyment they will get out of their time adventuring. So for those who, like me, are constantly fighting the urge to accumulate yet more lovely and exciting gear and gadgets, you might be interested in the coolest piece of camping gear that I’ve seen in a long time.

Queue the Flying Tent.

This is an item that will definitely make it not only into my dreams, but also onto my slowly filling shelf of super cool outdoor gear. Why? Well, being the world’s first all-in-one floating tent, bivy tent, hammock and poncho might be enough of an answer. But for those needing a little convincing, here are the details:

Set it up in only 7 seconds.

Hammock with mosquito net

It weighs only 1.2kg.

Bivvy Tent

It comes with carabiner, tent pegs, tree belts and Whoopie slings.

Tent on Pannier rack

With it’s capacity to fit securely onto your pannier rack, or hook snugly onto your backpack, this really is the perfect solution to the first world problems of the minimalist outdoorsman.

So if you can’t wait to get your hands your next bit of well thought through outdoor gear, then the Flying Tent is available to preorder on Kickstarter.
